Mood Disorders Society of Canada (hereinafter referred as “the Company”) is committed to protecting the privacy and personal information of users of our Site.
The Company fully adheres to all relevant privacy legislation in Canada and its provinces and territories.
Subject to this policy, the Company does not collect personal information about you (information that could be used to identify you) except when you voluntarily provide it. Personal information of users is collected on the Site when you are asked specific questions and when you communicate directly with the Company via e-mail, feedback forms and/or chat rooms. Also, although you are not required to register to access the Site, you may be asked to provide certain personal information when you visit certain sections of the Site. In each instance where personal information is being collected, you will be informed as to what information is required and what information is optional. The required information is necessary to enable access to restricted areas of our Site. Whenever you submit information via the Site, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of that information in accordance with this Privacy Statement and the Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not submit information via the Site. Failure to provide required personal information may limit your ability to use the Site and/or access certain information from the Company.
The Company may also collect information about you and your use of the Site through the use of “cookies”. Cookies are small data files that are sent to your browser and stored on your computer’s hard-drive when you visit certain websites, thereby “tracking” use of the website. This technology does not collect personal information; the information collected is in an aggregate non-identifiable form. The Company does not match or correlate any of the information with any personal information that you may submit on the Site. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies. However, some browsers can be set to reject all cookies; if you choose to modify your browser in this manner, some pages of the Site (or other sites you access) may not function properly.
The Site uses Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses. An IP Address is a number assigned to your computer by your Internet service provider so you can access the Internet. Generally, an IP address changes each time you connect to the Internet. Note, however, that if you have a broadband connection, depending on your individual circumstance, it is possible that your IP Address that we collect, or even perhaps a cookie we use, may contain information that could be identifiable. This is because with some broadband connections your IP Address does not change and could be associated with your personal computer. We use your IP Address to report aggregate information on use and to help improve the website.
The Company uses your personal information to operate and develop the Site, to monitor interest in information contained on the Site, to assist in tailoring the information contained on the Site to your needs and interests, for our marketing and research purposes and, if you ask us to, to send you information that may be of interest to you. The Company gives you the opportunity to “opt-in” to receiving such information when you provide your personal information. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to “opt-out” of any future communications that we send you by contacting us, toll-free, at 1-613-921-5565.
The Company may also use your personal information to create aggregated information that does not allow you to be personally identified or contacted. Rather than showing individual activity, aggregated information shows user behaviour as a whole. The Company makes full use of all information acquired through the Site that is not in a personally identifiable form including aggregate information to help improve the website. You should be aware that operators of linked websites may also collect your personal information and information generated through the use of cookies when you link to their websites. This Privacy Statement does not apply to any linked website and the Company is not responsible for how such third parties collect, use or disclose your personal information. You should check the privacy policies of any linked website before providing any of your personal information to that website.
The Company may disclose your personal information to those of its affiliates and related companies that agree to treat it in accordance with this Privacy Statement. The Company will not, without your permission, disclose your personal information to unaffiliated third parties except that the Company reserves the right to disclose your personal information to: (i) third party service providers for purposes related to supporting our business (e.g., fulfillment services, technical support, delivery services) and providing you with information that may be of interest to you (if you have opted in to receiving such information as described above) in which case we will require such third parties to agree to treat it in accordance with this Privacy Statement; and (ii) to third parties in connection with a sale, assignment, merger, amalgamation, plan of arrangement or other transfer of the business of this Site (including but not limited to all pre-sale, assignment, merger, amalgamation, plan of arrangement or transfer activities and all transaction negotiations and due diligence activities) to which the information relates, in which case we will require any such buyer, assignee, successor party, transferee or other party related to the transaction to agree to treat the information in accordance with this Privacy Statement.
The Company will otherwise only release your personal information to third parties in the following limited circumstances: (i) if a law, regulation, search warrant, subpoena, court order or order of an administrative tribunal or other body authorized to compel the disclosure of such information legally requires the Company to do so; (ii) if the rights or property of the Company, its affiliates, subsidiaries, third party service providers or the users of the Site are in jeopardy; and (iii) if the personal safety of users of the Site or other members of the public are in jeopardy. In addition, the Company may disclose aggregated information which does not allow you to be personally identified to third parties.
Recognizing that your privacy is important to you, the Company employs technical security measures to protect your personal information. However, no transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Consequently, the Company, and its affiliates, related companies, third party service providers and their respective officers, directors, employees and agents do not represent, warrant or guarantee that personal information will be protected against misuse, loss or alterations and do not accept any liability for personal information submitted to them nor for your or third parties’ use or misuse of personal information.
